For Reconstruction, recordings from 1930’s Soviet films of factories and a documentary film about the Manometer factory that is now Artplay were used to create a new soundscape. Here, two eras, two ideologies are encountered in a sound installation, and the listener becomes a participant in the dialogue between the past and the present. In the machine of industrialisation as in the installation, individual voices cannot be heard, as they all merge into a single mechanical roar.
Until the 1990s the factory acted as a symbol of the revolution, of new ideas that created a new reality whereas today it is a classic ruin of a post-industrial society behind a beautiful facade. The body is preserved, but the content is new, although despite the change of context it is still a place where creative activity continues.
